When most people think of a "convention," they invariably conjure up images of stuffy businessmen, tacky carpeting, and, of course, guys dressed as Klingons.
Subtract the first two and you've got E3, the premiere global gathering of gaming geeks. With roughly 65,000 attendees, it's a safe bet you could see the Cheetos stains from outer space.
Welcome to GR's home for the next seven days, our E3 2005 hub. This year's show runs from May 18-20, with the gigantic press conferences from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo taking place on Monday and Tuesday. For the tenth straight year, the GR staff will be there in droves, mostly for the free drinks.
What a bunch of vidiots. - 6/3/05 |
Make that one in particular. Somehow evading both the authorities and good taste, GR's never awkward leader Duke Ferris smuggled a video camera into E3. And so we "proudly" present the first two episodes of: Goodbye anonymity, hello slightly embarrasing footage! |
A New Beginning - 6/1/05 |
Or at least a new week of post-E3 updates. There's a light at the end of the tunnel people, which we sincerely hope isn't coming from a train. Just ask GR's shellshocked editor Mike Reilly, who was so flabbergasted by E3 that he felt compelled to warn others of its dangers. The result? For the discerning E3 traveller. Don't leave home without it.

The end of an era? - 5/27/05 |
Or at least the end of the week. Whew. We can't remember exactly what Memorial Day is for anymore, but we're so excited for a three-day weekend, we've been remembering all kinds of other things. But first, AWARDS! You guessed it - GR proudly presents our Best of E3 2005 Awards! We hope you enjoy. :)

And with that, we out. |
Ain't no stoppin' us now...5/26/05 |
Wow, we've resorted to singing old R&B songs to ring in a new E3 update. Things grow stranger by the day.
Speaking of the world's scariest publishing giant, how about extra assets from the behemoth itself? EA, Part I:

IT Continues TO NEVER END - 5/24/05 |
Last week was all about showing off three new consoles...which is EXACTLY what we don't need. GR's own Duke Ferris explains why Round Two (Three? Four?) of the console wars makes our brains explode in Get mad, it's good for you.

And so we bid a fond farewell to E3 2005. Have a great summer! See you next year! Math class was lame, wasn't it? Mr. Todd is such a prick! What will we miss most? Good question. We're going to have to ponder that while we spend the next week sifting through hordes of press discs, pages of illegible notes and horrifying images of guys with bad beards and curious mullets visually fondling porn stars. On that creepy note, witness our last ditch effort to get some work done in this crazy place: Bethesda

IT CONTINUES - 5/19/05 |

One day older, one day wiser, one day closer to getting back to a life without a constant techno soundtrack. We delve deeper into the convention center and dig up some morsels that one might describe as being particularly tasty: Blazing Angels Preview Activision:

Again, go be bloggy and enjoy our Manifesto on the right. On even less sleep. With feet that have graduated from sore to burning. |
| PRE-SHOW HYSTERIA - 5/17/05 - Nintendo Steals Our Name |
Well, at least the second half. The Nintendo Revolution was made public today at Nintendo's revivalist meeting / press conference. We gathered what intel we could, although it wasn't easy hearing over the incessant shouts of encouragement from fanboys who clearly have some sort of deviant crush on fictional Italian plumbers. At any rate, witness the Revolution! Er, the other one. Nintendo also showed off their third version of the Game Boy Advance, the miniscule Game Boy Micro. Since it doesn't do anything new other than look sleek and feel tiny, we're not going to try explaining why it's cool. Just dig that shiny screen. |
| PRE-SHOW HYSTERIA - 5/16/05 - Sony Shows The PS3 |
In a day filled with monstrous news, no one topped Sony and their unveiling of the Playstation 3. Boring press conference? You bet. An absolute mountain of PS3 information? Hell yeah. What are you still doing here? |
| PRE-SHOW HYSTERIA - 5/13/05 - GR's E3 2005 Post-Show Preview! |
That's right - we've constructed a time machine out of hairpins, eggshells and mustard to leap forward to the end of the show! Find out what we liked most before it even had a chance to happen. Scoop THAT, biatch! |
