Emulators - Frequently Asked Questions

Questions? Comments? Email downloads@game-revolution.com
What's an emulator?

An emulator is a program that tries to mimic (emulate) another system. Your computer and a Super NES are built entirely differently, from the nuts and bolts to the software. In essence, a Super NES emulator uses the increased power of your PC to run the operating system of a Super NES, thereby allowing it to play Super NES games.

Of course, few emulators work perfectly, so be prepared for some bugs.

What's a ROM?

ROMs are copies of the original games, but in file format. Someone with more technical knowledge than me or you has found a way to save the games on the computer. Since you can't put a Super NES cartridge into your computer, you need to download ROMs to play games.

NOTE: Due to copyright laws, it is illegal to download a ROM of any game that you do not own unless you delete it within 24 hours. Game Revolution does not host any ROM images on our site, nor does Game Revolution endorse piracy.

Will I get a virus from downloading an emulator?
No, you will not get a virus from any emulator downloaded from Game Revolution. Still, better safe than sorry. Just in case, always make sure you have a protection program such as Norton Anti-Virus or P-Cillin operating while you surf the Internet or download mail.

I've downloaded the emulator, but I can't find it.
Whever you download anything off the Internet, always make sure to note where on your computer you are saving the file! We recommend always saving things to your Desktop, then moving it to a folder later. If you don't remember where you saved the file, do a search on your computer for the filename of the emulator you just downloaded.

I've downloaded the emulator, but I can't get it to work.
Game emulators should either come in .exe or .zip file formats. In order to install an .exe, simply double click on the program icon. To install a .zip file, you must first unzip it using WinZip or another .zip utility.

I've unzipped it and installed it, but the emulator still doesn't work.
Did you download a ROM yet? Links to ROM sites are at the bottom of each emulator page. If the emulator is broken, please drop us a line at downloads@game-revolution.com. Since we didn't make the emulator, we have no idea how to fix it, but we can certainly remove it from the page.

I'm looking for an emulator that you don't have.
If you can't find what you're looking for, send an e-mail to downloads@game-revolution.com and if it exists, we'll find it. NO ROM REQUESTS!

Send me the emulator via e-mail because I don't have the time to download it.
No. It will take the same amount of time to download the file and it's a waste of our time. Also, mail servers have an upper limit to the amount of information able to be sent.
